KINDER NEWS January 18, 2024

It has been so nice to be back at school with all of your sweet kids! I missed them SO much over break!!  With these additional snow days it has given us a chance to ease back into it :)!   Having two weeks off from school and additional snow days can be challenging getting back into routine, especially for young students.  I think we are all slowly adjusting and it feels good to be back!

Important Reminders:

Please remember to send your kinder with a hat, gloves/mittens and coat every day!  Labeling everything is very helpful,  as well as practicing getting snow gear off and on :)!

If there is snow on the ground, please plan to pack your child’s snow pants.

Please remember an AM snack is provided everyday, but if your child would like an additional snack during our PM towel intervention time please pack your child one each day.  In the past,  kids would finish their lunch they brought from home…. but with MOST kids getting hot lunch this year…. you may want to consider packing a snack for the PM.

*Gingerbread House Project: All Donations due Friday, December 15!

We will be making gingerbread houses on Tuesday, December 19th at 2:30. We will be collecting donations of items we can use to decorate our houses over the next few days. Any kind of small candy works well…M&M’s, skittles, gum drops, chocolate chips, red hots, peppermints…as well as stick pretzels and fruit loops. If you can send something in, the kids will love using it to decorate their houses! Please have your donations in by Friday, December 15th so I can make sure we have enough supplies to decorate our houses!  Thanks, as always, for you help!

*Tuesday, December 19 – Gingerbread House Decorating (student may invite one adult guest)

We will be decorating gingerbread houses on Tuesday, December 19 at 2:30.  Your child may invite one person to join in on the fun, but it is not required.  This will be a fun activity to help us get in the Christmas spirit!  Plan to arrive at 2:30 for quick directions before we begin!

Also, we are asking all guests to bring along a batch of white frosting so that we can “hold things together.”  Please buy a tub of white frosting at the store and bring it to school in a ziploc freezer baggie ready to use.  Also all visitors need to be sure to have a background check complete.

Here is the link:  https://docs.google.com/a/hpseagles.net/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeWs9tkN7FMo1QTgLxIjKZmMycvqP7tf3AovvplU8KCwX8B_A/viewform

Please fill out the paper copy that was sent home and send it back to school.  I need to keep track of all people planning to come to make sure each vistor has a background check complete.  Thank you!

*I am also looking for any volunteers to help glue graham crackers together for our houses.  If you are willing, PLEASE email me and I will get you all the supplies you need!  Really appreciate all your help!!!!  xoxo

*Wednesday, December 20 – Trinkets need to be turned

DETAILS ON THE Trinket EXCHANGE:

We will be doing a gift exchange that is a bit different than usual. Each child will be given a Christmas bag and needs to buy “trinkets” to fill one another’s bag. These items should be very inexpensive and can be found at dollar stores. Each child will need to bring 18 of the same small “trinkets” to put in their classmates bag! This way every child will get 18 small gifts and everyone will get the same thing! Your child should bring their trinkets no later than Wednesday, December 20!! (You may send them in early.) Please send them in a bag labeled with your child’s name!!:) If purchasing these items is not an option for you, we would be happy to provide items for your child to pass out, just let us know!

Writers Workshop

This week we wrote a shared story about the Pilgrim’s First Thanksiving.  We focused on rereading our own writing to make sure we could read it so our family could enjoy it as well.  We know that if we can’t read it, no one else will be able to either.    The story had a beginning, middle, and end and was written in a 3-page writing booklet.  I am so proud of these great writers!!!

We also wrote 2 lists.  What we will be eating for Thanksgiving and What we are Thankful for!

Math

We are in the beginning of unit 3, teen numbers.  We are working on identifying and writing numbers 1-20.

We can not wait for tomorrow!!!!  We are keeping a close eye on the weather!  If parade gets cancelled, singing will be cancelled too!  We are hoping the weather cooperates.

Some reminders…

*Have your child come to school in costume.  You may want to keep small pieces at home.  It is hard for kinders to keep track of all the miscellaneous pieces.

*Please pack a seperate bag to put costume in.  We will most likely take it off and pack it up in the extra bag to take home safely.  If you can put your child’s name on the bag, that would be great!!!!

Writing Workshop

This week during writer’s Workshop we worked on spelling tricky words, espcially those words that have more then one syllable.  Students clap the word out and then stretch out each clap to get all the sounds down that they hear.  We are being brave writers and trying hard things!!!!  Love the progress we are making with this!

Readers Workshop:

It’s official! Each student has been assigned a reading partner this week. Some of us are peanut butters and some of us are jellies. We even have designated reading spots where we can read together and support each other throughout the year! We celebrated the beginning of this new partnership with a partner day full of fun activities. The goal was to get to know our partners better and learn how to be a good teammate.
