CLASS PIC FROM EARTH DAY!

 

HOMEWORK:

Since we had a busy Earth day, we did not get to black binder HW.  I did collect black binders.  Students did get a new baggy book!

Just a reminder:

T/F Baggy books are due!   Please stick with this!!!!  At home reading is so important :)!

F – Black binder HW is usually due!  None for this week, we were too busy celebrating Earth Day!  I collected all black binders.  Look for them to go home next Friday!

Please continue to plug away and be consistent with reading at home!!!!  Feel free to have your kids use Raz-kids for some online reading as well!

Writing Workshop:

We continued on with informational writing this week! We enjoy watching a few informational video on differnt animals so that we can become experts and write about them.  We first talk about everything we already know about the animal.    Then we watched some informational videos and read some informational text on that specific animal to learn even more!   We take all the information we know and learn and put it in a book written by “us”!  We are focusing on adding detailed pictures to our stories so our audience can learn from them and adding bold words to let the reader know “pay attention, this is important”!

 

Readers Workshop:

• This week the Kinders continued to discover Non-fiction books, finding features in books, and exploring new words they might not know.  We added these words to a Class Vocabulary Chart.  It was REALLY exciting to see Kinders notice these new words in other books!  We are also listening to nonfiction books on our laptops from Khan Academy.  Kids love their laptop reading time!

 

• The Kinders also listened to fiction books from one of our favorite authors: Robert Munch!  We are focusing on setting, characters, and problem.  We also retell the story by talking about what happened in the beginning, middle, and end.

 

Math:

This week we continued our work in Unit 5 of our Math curriculum.  The Kinders worked hard exploring teen numbers, wrote numbers all the way to 100, drew and wrote number sentences to match story problems.  The Kinders loved playing the missing partner game as well with a partner.

Earth Day:

We celebrated Earth Day on Friday!  We learned how and why we should keep the Earth healthy and clean!  Great reminder for us all, even me :)!

• We sang songs

• We read books

• We read and wrote an ending to an informational booklet

• We made a poster

• We watched a video

• We colored a pattern book all about ways to save the Earth

Snacks:

Thanks for those people that contributed to our snack cupboard!!!  We may need a few more to make it through the rest of the year so if you are at the store don’t forget to think of your favorite kinders!  xoxo
